Men's Fashion - Trends & Tips For Looking Good In 2011

It’s that time of year again: Paris Fashion Week has been and gone, so it’s time to take stock of the trends that emerged from the shows. Based on the catwalks, what should men be wearing for the coming season? Well, one thing that was popular was the patterned, printed shirt. These were generally seen in complementary, rustic colors that give a homey feel to the garment, while the patterns and prints add a bit of spice to the shirt – simple and masculine.

Also spotted on the catwalks was a return of 1920s fashion. This is great if you like classic tailoring and trends that spawn complete outfits. Let’s start with the hair: this should be neatly slicked back with gel. Don’t use too much because we’re going for classy, not greasy. Suit jackets should be smart and worn with ties, as in the classic Viennese style. Trousers are relatively short and either tuck into black work boots or finish just above the top of the boot.

The vertical striped shirt was another item spotted on the men’s catwalks in Paris, which is a really versatile trend. Make sure you can wear your shirt with everything from some casual jeans for a trip out to your suit for work by going for muted colors. Green, grey, brown or blue stripes are all good options. This is a particularly great trend as striped shirts are always popular so you’ll be able to wear it for years without going out of style, and all men look good in it.

Coats and jackets are also set to be huge for Fall/Winter 2011 if the Paris catwalks are anything to go by. Here, good tailoring is really important. Try going for belted coat that ties loosely, giving you a flattering silhouette – thick belts work really well here. Jackets are also tailored, giving them clean, crisp lines and a timeless feel that means they’re sure to last for years. Stick with traditional dark colors here like black or grey to make sure you get the wear out of your coat.

Another men’s trend at Paris Fashion Week was textured fabric. This is a great trend as it helps to add some spice to your outfit without being over the top. So, one fabric that’s really big is leather, a great choice as it never really goes out of style. Add extra interest to a leather jacket by getting one that has a touch of fur at the collar – this looks great and will also keep you warm. Corduroy was also spotted on several catwalks, making this another textured fabric trend.
