Are Your Vintage Narrow Ties Too Short? 3 Solutions To Make Them Work For You Today

It's a shame that mid century ties are shorter than today's neckties since they have an extraordinary classic style that has never been duplicated since. Oversize men need neckties that are at least 60 inches in length but manufactures  didn't think much about that back then. A lot of thin vintage neckties from the 1950's and 1960's vary from 50 to 57 inches at most. 48 to 50 inches is the length of today's boys ties so trying to utilize neckties that are not much longer for an adult is a challenge. It is interesting to note that in the middle of the century gentlemen wore their pants higher than they do today, and that fashion helped bridge the gap between the tip of the tie and the pants line.

What is the solution? There is some hope for vintage tie fans:

Try A New Knot

You can tie your necktie in such a way which adjusts the tie to hang longer. Simply start with a shorter piece of the narrow end when you begin tying the knot. The result will be a longer tie but a smaller thin end which ends up higher than normal behind the front of the necktie, but since it is hidden by the front, it isn't a factor. You could end up with a thin end that hangs just a couple of inches away from the knot.

Lengthen Your Necktie

Have the mens neckties lengthened by bringing it to a seamstress or tailor. The first thing you need to do is to figure out how long you want the necktie to be. The other ties in you closet will provide you with a good idea of your perfect length. Make sure you wear a normal tie and a dress shirt. Mark off the section which lies hiding beneath the collar and remove the tie and measure. A pre-measured amount of fabric will be sewn in to the necktie at an inconspicuous area. Neckties can contain an interior lining which can be tricky to work with so leave the tailoring to the professionals.

Wear Your Neckwear Beneath a Three Piece Suit

Three piece suits are not only fashionable but are tailor made to hide a shorter necktie. No one will be aware that your tie is shorter but enough of it will show. If you are more comfortable wearing a two piece ensemble, you can always keep the jacket buttoned, which can be easier said than done.

In Conclusion

Necessity is the mother of invention. So is the case with men's shorter narrow ties you see your favorite Mad Men character or Rat Pack star wear. 50's and 60's ties are not just classic and sophisticated. So if you love these accessories as much as I do, all it takes is a few adjustments to make them work for you today.

College guides written by students for students. Colorado College StudentsTell It Like It Is"Outdoorsy" is the best way to describe the CC image. The "granola" crowd always makes itself seen with patched corduroy pants and dreadlocks. The Birkenstock and tie-dye image doesn't hold true for all students, but it would certainly seem to be the average. The guys seem to have taken a t-shirt and jeans pledge for most of the fall and all of the spring, while the girls take advantage of sunny days to sport tank tops. During the winter, Columbia fleece jackets and wool beanies are in vogue. At first glance, students seem to place almost no importance on fashion, but on closer examination their brand-name jeans and their oh-so-slightly tussled hair give them away as an upscale crowd. What you see isn't always what you get when it comes to a college's image. College Prowler's got your back when it comes to the real deal on Colorado College! A campus brochure can't compare to what the students have to say. The College Prowler guidebook can give you the inside scoop on everything you need to know about CC. for example, what would you do if someone asked if you wanted to go to the Nasty Rasty? You need to be prepared for these kinds of questions! On the Block Plan, students take only one class at a time for three and a half weeks. In between blocks, students have four-day vacation periods called block breaks. Constellation

Constellation

$15.63

This best-selling debut novel from one of France?s most exciting young writers is based on the true story of the 1949 disappearance of Air France?s Lockheed Constellation and its famous passengers On October 27, 1949, Air France?s new plane, the Constellation, launched by the extravagant Howard Hughes, welcomed thirty-eight passengers aboard. On October 28, no longer responding to air traffic controllers, the plane disappeared while trying to land on the island of Santa Maria, in the Azores. No one survived. The question Adrien Bosc?s novel asks is not so much how, but why? What were the series of tiny incidents that, in sequence, propelled the plane toward Redondo Mountain? And who were the passengers? As we recognize Marcel Cerdan, the famous boxer and lover of Edith Piaf, and we remember the musical prodigy Ginette Neveu, whose tattered violin would be found years later, the author ties together their destinies: ?Hear the dead, write their small legend, and offer to these thirty-eight men and women, like so many constellations, a life and a story.

Kelsey Greene and her three best friends, Diana, Melanie, and Fifi, are thirty-something city girls looking for love in the dating cesspool that is Manhattan. After viewing a certain "little" movie about a Greek wedding-yes, that Greek wedding-they come to the conclusion that American men just aren't cutting it anymore and figure the grass must certainly be greener on the other side of the Atlantic. So, when Diana's job at the Metropolitan Museum of Art sends her on a trip to Italy, they all go together in search of hot, foreign guys. They hit Italy, France, and Spain in their quest to find exotic love but, naturally, the quest is not without its complications: One of the girls already has a secret, foreign lover but is afraid the others won't approve of him; one meets the man of her dreams the night before the trip and can't stop thinking about him; one scares away nearly every potential man they meet with her, shall we say, "vibrant" personality; and the other one doesn't even believe that true love actually exists. Eventually the gals all find love in some form or another, though not quite how they expected, and in the process, the ties that bind their friendship together are strengthened in ways they hadn't imagined.

His best friend, Sam Grandy, is the near inverse: married, a spendthrift, overweight, needy, and near bankruptcy. Yet they've been inseparable best friends since childhood. As best friends, they share a close and loving bond, often stronger than the relationships other men share with their girlfriends, siblings, even wives. But in the twenty years since their friendship began, those fundamental differences have become more apparent and their relationship has grown strained. When the two friends encounter serious problems, they're forced to reckon with each other. Do these differences threaten their friendship - or are the dissimilarities what make it possible? Can they escape the ties of their past, or are they intrinsically bound until death? When Sam's health begins to falter, he draws Roy into his life again - and into a chain of deceit, sex, delusion, death, and love such as only a best friend could. Chapters: Tristan and Iseult, Matter of Britain, Ys, Barzaz Breiz, Brittia, Ankou, Gradlon, Hoel, Dahut, Morgen, Mount Killaraus, Breton Mythology. Excerpt: Ankou is a personification of death in Breton mythology. Background This character is reported by Anatole Le Braz, writer and legends collector in the 19th century. Here is what he wrote about the Ankou in his best-seller "The Legend of the Death":The Ankou is the henchman of the Death (oberour ar maro ). The last dead of the year, in each parish, becomes the Ankou of this parish for all the following year. When it has been, in a year, more death than usual, one says about the Ankou:- War ma fé, heman zo eun Anko drouk. ("on my faith, this one is a nasty Ankou")There are many tales involving Ankou, who appears as a man or skeleton wearing a cloak and wielding a scythe, often atop a cart for collecting the dead. According to some he was the first child of Adam and Eve. Other versions have it that the Ankou is the first dead person of the year (though he is always depicted as adult, and male), charged with collecting the others before he can go to the afterlife. One says that there were three drunk friends walking home one night, when they came across an old man on a rickety cart. Two of the men started shouting at Ankou, and then throwing stones, when they broke the axle on his cart they ran off. The third friend felt bad, and so wanting to help Ankou, first found a branch to replace the broken axle, and then gave Ankou his shoe-laces to tie it to the cart with. The next morning, the two friends who were throwing stones at Ankou were dead, while the one who stayed to help only had his hair turned white. He would never speak in detail about how it happened. Ankou is king of the dead, and his subjects have their own

Paragaea: A Planetary Romance

Paragaea: A Planetary Romance

$1.99

Paragaea: A Planetary Romance is the story of Akilina "Leena" Chirikov, who shortly after launching from Star Town in the Soviet Union, finds herself thrown into another dimension, a world of strange science and ancient mystery. There she meets another time-lost person from Earth, Lieutenant Hieronymus Bonaventure of the Royal Navy-who left home to fight the forces of Napoleon and never returned-and his companion, Balam-outlaw prince of the jaguar men. Bonaventure is interested only in adventure and amusement, while Balam only wants distraction until the day he can reclaim his throne. Having little better to do, they agree to help Chirikov find a way home. In the tradition of the planetary romances of Edgar Rice Burroughs and Leigh Brackett, Paragaea is in fact a "hard" science fiction adventure, grounded in the latest thinking in the fields of theoretical physics, artificial intelligence, genetics, and more. There is a rigorously rational explanation behind all of the unearthly elements, with most of the "magic" the protagonist encounters being the products of a forgotten, transhuman, post-singularity culture that has long since disappeared. Chirikov, a strictly rational Soviet cosmonaut, interprets these as best she can, using the framework of early 1960s science. Being a dutiful Soviet, she wants only to return home to Earth, to inform her superiors about what she has discovered. But she soon finds herself developing ties to her companion Bonaventure that make her wonder whether she really wants to go home at all.
